Patience In the Moment

Patience in the moment

"I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure." Psalms‬ ‭40:1-2‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

We have all heard it said that patience is a virtue, but what exactly does that mean?

Patience is not about standing by passively waiting for something to happen. Whether you are standing in line at the grocery store, waiting in the airport after a delayed flight, or pacing by the phone anticipating the results from your last doctor's visit - PATIENCE IS ABOUT THE MOMENT YOU ARE IN RIGHT NOW.

"Patience asks us to live the moment to the fullest, to be completely present to the moment, to taste the here and now, to be where we are." (1) And to be surrendered to the presence of the Lord.

But being fully present to the moment is far from natural in today’s culture. If we aren’t careful, our past and future circumstances can turn our eyes away from Jesus.

So as you review your calendar today, where do you need an extra helping of patience in order to trust God in the moment you are in right now? Where do you need God to “set your feet upon the rock” that is Jesus?
